Charles Stuart Platkin, J.D., M.P.H.
Founder and CEO
Charles Stuart Platkin is one of the country's leading nutrition and public health advocates, whose syndicated nutrition and fitness column appears in more than 165 daily newspapers nationally, including the Miami Herald, the Seattle Times, the New York Post, The Buffalo News, the Honolulu Advertiser, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Charlotte Observer, The State, The Fort Worth Star Telegraph, Omaha World Herald and the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The Diet Detective newsletter is emailed to more than 100,000 individuals each week. He is the founder and director of The Institute for Nutrition & Behavioral Sciences, a non-profit organization that conducts obesity-related research and designs public health programs.

Platkin has been quoted as a weight loss/nutrition expert in numerous publications, including USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Time, Newsweek, Ladies Home Journal, Men's Health, Shape, and Fitness; he has also appeared on NBC's The Today Show, CNN, CNBC, CBS' The Early Show, the BBC, and others. He is a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the American Obesity Association, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the American Council on Exercise. He received his Masters in Public Health from Florida International University, a law degree from Fordham University, and his undergraduate degree from Cornell University. He is also a certified personal trainer and is currently pursing his PhD in public health.

Platkin is also the founder of Integrated Wellness Solutions which designs health interventions combining behavioral print marketing and a sophisticated online software program that integrates cutting-edge scientific research and the latest in behavioral nutrition' research; the program is used by insurance, pharmaceutical companies and other large corporations to assist more than 100,000 people each year in losing weight and increasing their physical activity. His first book, Breaking the Pattern (www.breakingthepattern.com) was a bestseller in hardcover; it has been used by addiction clinics to assist patients with resolving drug and alcohol-related issues and more than 20 universities around the country as a text to teach behavioral change techniques to nutrition and dietetic counseling students. His latest book is The Automatic Diet (www.makeitautomatic.com) (Penguin Group, Hudson Street Press) with a foreword by Foreword Barbara Rolls, PhD, Professor and Guthrie Chair in Nutrition, Penn State University


Carey Clifford, M.S., R.D.
Vice President
The IWS Team of Registered Dietitians is headed up by Carey Clifford, MS, RD. Ms. Clifford has appeared as an expert in nutrition, weight loss, and behavior change in dozens of media outlets, including SELF, Shape, Woman's Day, and Fitness Magazine. Prior to joining the IWS, Ms. Clifford specialized in food and nutrition communications at Fleishman-Hillard Inc. Additionally, she has provided nutrition and weight loss counseling to both children and adults and has contributed to the development of several Internet-based corporate wellness programs. Ms. Clifford completed an American Dietetic Association approved internship at the University of New Hampshire where she also served as an adjunct professor. She received her master of science in nutrition and health promotion from Simmons College in Boston, MA, where she conducted research related to practical nutrition skills education and positive behavior change. She also orchestrated a study assessing the health-related behaviors of college-age women. Prior to completing her graduate studies, Ms. Clifford was a systems consultant at Andersen Consulting. Ms. Clifford is also a director at the Institute for Nutrition and Behavioral Sciences, and one of the creators of the Nutricise Weight Loss Program. She received her BA from Dartmouth College.


Shira R. Isenberg, R.D.
Nutrition Director
Ms. Isenberg is a registered dietitian and ACE certified personal trainer, poised to receive her Masters in Urban Public Health with an emphasis on nutrition from Hunter College in 2007. She has developed program materials and written numerous articles about health and nutrition for Integrated Wellness Solutions, and acts as the nutrition editor of Charles Stuart Platkin's nationally syndicated health and fitness column, The Diet Detective. Shira graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University Chicago with a double degree in both Nutrition and Psychology, the recipient of both the Presidential and Mulcahy scholarship awards and a member of multiple honor societies. She trained at New York-Presbyterian hospital's American Dietetic Association-approved dietetic internship, where she conducted a research project utilizing PRIDE methodology to improve the process of menu distribution. An active community member as well as experienced weight loss counselor, Shira has participated in the Daily News Diet Expert Week, taught a health education course to high school students, and lectured to varying age groups on the role of nutrition in preventing and controlling chronic disease. Shira recently traveled with an overseas mission to the former Soviet Union, volunteering her time and talents at a camp for Belarussian children. Shira has also volunteered her time with the Women's Health Initiative and at Rush North Shore hospital in Skokie, Illinois.


Renuka Jain, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Jain graduated from Columbia University College of Medicine and Surgeons with honors in clinical practice specializing in cardiology and diabetes management. Dr. Jain practiced internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital, with a focus on preventive medicine and public health. She is also a magna cum laude graduate of human biology from Brown University.


Theresa Davis, MS, RD
Director of Nutrition Services
Weight management has been the primary focus of Ms. Davis' studies and professional experiences. She is certified by the American Dietetic Association as an Adult Weight Management Counselor. Prior to her current position as a weight loss counselor at Nutricise, she was a clinical dietitian at Mary Immaculate Hospital, a division of St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers. There she assessed, counseled and educated patients in acute, long term, and outpatient settings. Additionally she precepted nutrition students, delivered lectures to hospital staff, and contributed to the hospital community newsletter. An avid fitness enthusiast, she has also worked as a personal trainer, which merged her passions for exercise, nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle. Ms. Davis completed her dietetic internship at the Bronx Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, an experience that exposed her to varied and unique nutrition programs such as the Community Food Resource Center, Calvary Hospital - center for palliative cancer care, St Luke's- Roosevelt and Mount Sinai Hospitals pediatric wards, and the Mount Sinai research facility for Cystic Fibrosis. She also participated in medical monitoring and nutrition counseling at the Theodore Van Itallie Obesity Research and Education Center. Ms. Davis obtained her Master of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition from New York University and her BA from the State University of New York at Albany.
